The Central Coast is full of things to see and do in rain, hail or shine. Of course, there are the stunning beaches and spectacular landscapes, but if the kids are looking to break up the day with some indoor activities or want to head somewhere new, the list of possibilities is endless.
We’ve chosen 11 of our absolute favourite things to do while you enjoy your short stay at Palm Cove Retreat.
- Ocean Beach
If you’ve booked your short stay at Umina Beach, then no doubt one of the things you’re most looking forward to is checking out the beach. The good news is that Umina Beach is patrolled from the school holidays in September through to April.
Umina Beach is one of the best places to learn how to surf or SUP on the Central Coast. The water at the beach is calm, with the swell not being too overwhelming for beginners. There is even a shallow end perfect for the little ones to run around and enjoy the water.
- Explore Patonga Beach
Patonga Beach is one of the Central Coast’s hidden treasures. Secluded away from the main hustle and bustle, the beach is right at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River. Choose to sit back and relax on the beach or go for a stroll along the streets.
If you’re feeling extra energetic, you can go for a hike over the hills between Patonga and Pearl Beach, and check out the views from Warrah Lookout.
- Discover Pearl Beach
Pearl Beach is one of the must untouched and pristine beaches on the Central Coast. It’s one of those tranquil places you can visit where all you can hear the waves crashing, birds singing and the trees blowing in the breeze. The family will love the ocean pool, checking out the rock pool and even playing on the playground.
While you’re there, go for a stroll along the paths at the spectacular Crommelin Native Arboretum. It’s a relaxing walk where you see different vegetation such as ancient grass trees and rainforest species.
- Kayaking the local lakes
Jump in a kayak and go for a paddle! What better way of exploring the local creeks and waterways than by boat. The kids will absolutely love it and so will you.
Kayaks are available upon requires (with a signed waiver required) directly from Palm Cove Retreat.
- Mount Ettalong Lookout
Put on some comfortable shoes, grab a drink bottle and hike up to the spectacular Mount Ettalong lookout. To reach Mount Ettalong lookout, drive along Mount Ettalong Road towards Pearl Beach or go for a stroll from the Southern end of the Umina Beach car park. Make sure you take your camera or phone to grab some pics!
- Go cycling
If you’re planning to stay at Palm Cove, then put your bike on the back of the car ready to go for a coastal ride. If you can’t fit or don’t have a one, then you can hire a bike from multiple places around the Central Coast. See more of The Peninsula by riding between Umina, Ocean Beach and Ettalong Beach. There is a shared pathway along The Esplanade.
