  1. Ocean Beach

If you’ve booked your short stay at Umina Beach, then no doubt one of the things you’re most looking forward to is checking out the beach. The good news is that Umina Beach is patrolled from the school holidays in September through to April.

Umina Beach is one of the best places to learn how to surf or SUP on the Central Coast. The water at the beach is calm, with the swell not being too overwhelming for beginners. There is even a shallow end perfect for the little ones to run around and enjoy the water.

  1. Explore Patonga Beach

Patonga Beach is one of the Central Coast’s hidden treasures. Secluded away from the main hustle and bustle, the beach is right at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River. Choose to sit back and relax on the beach or go for a stroll along the streets.

If you’re feeling extra energetic, you can go for a hike over the hills between Patonga and Pearl Beach, and check out the views from Warrah Lookout.

  1. Discover Pearl Beach

Pearl Beach is one of the must untouched and pristine beaches on the Central Coast. It’s one of those tranquil places you can visit where all you can hear the waves crashing, birds singing and the trees blowing in the breeze. The family will love the ocean pool, checking out the rock pool and even playing on the playground.

While you’re there, go for a stroll along the paths at the spectacular Crommelin Native Arboretum. It’s a relaxing walk where you see different vegetation such as ancient grass trees and rainforest species.

  1. Kayaking the local lakes

Jump in a kayak and go for a paddle! What better way of exploring the local creeks and waterways than by boat. The kids will absolutely love it and so will you.

  1. Mount Ettalong Lookout

Put on some comfortable shoes, grab a drink bottle and hike up to the spectacular Mount Ettalong lookout. To reach Mount Ettalong lookout, drive along Mount Ettalong Road towards Pearl Beach or go for a stroll from the Southern end of the Umina Beach car park. Make sure you take your camera or phone to grab some pics!

  1. Go cycling

If you’re planning to stay at Palm Cove, then put your bike on the back of the car ready to go for a coastal ride. If you can’t fit or don’t have a one, then you can hire a bike from multiple places around the Central Coast. See more of The Peninsula by riding between Umina, Ocean Beach and Ettalong Beach. There is a shared pathway along The Esplanade.

  1. Kick back and relax

In the event of changeable weather, there is no shortage of things to do at Palm Cove Retreat. Put on a movie or set up a game, sit back and relax. If the kids have energy to burn, set up a game of pool or enjoy a game of table tennis. If you are fortunate enough to be staying at Umina Beach on the third Sunday of the month, then you must check out the Umina Beach Markets. Located beside the Umina Surf Lifesaving Club, these diverse markets showcase a range of goods from local makers and creators.

While you are enjoying your short stay at Umina Beach, go for a stroll and browse the region’s fresh produce, clothing, art, fresh food items and more. Grab a seat on the grass, enjoy the sound of the waves crashing and listen to the live music.

If you enjoy fishing, there is plenty of opportunity for that in The Entrance too. You can also visit the beach or feed the pelicans.
